The standard

Here is exactly what we grade you on.

Most audits keep the rubric private, which makes the grade an opinion. This is the whole thing: all 12 dimensions, what each one looks at, and what an A requires. Read it before you buy, and hold the audit to it.

What this standard is

Defined criteria, applied the same way every time.

The criteria below are drawn from established practitioner frameworks and applied identically to every brand we audit. That consistency is the point: two brands with the same evidence get the same grade.

What it is not: an empirical study of Fortune 500 companies. We have not surveyed the Fortune 500 and we do not claim to have. “Fortune 500 standard” describes the bar an A has to clear, defined below in full, not a dataset we measured. Anyone telling you their brand score comes from studying the Fortune 500 should be asked for the study.

FCritical failure. Complete rebuild recommended.

Runs first

Dimension 12: are you safe to spend?

The Master Brand Audit grades 12 dimensions. Eleven measure how strong your brand is. The twelfth measures whether it is safe to operate under its current name, site, and claims. It is graded differently and it runs before everything else, because a brand can earn an A on all eleven and still be unsafe to launch.

Two hard gates, pass or fail

  • Trademark and name collision

Verdicts: Clear to deploy, Clear with caution, Search required, STOP-SHIP

  • ADA / WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility

Verdicts: Clear to deploy, Clear with conditions, STOP-SHIP

A failed gate is a STOP-SHIP verdict and it stands regardless of every other score.

Four scored items, A to F

  • State consumer protection
  • Federal marketing and outreach compliance
  • Data privacy
  • Copyright and originality

Important: Dimension 12 is a preliminary screen, not legal advice. Findings are a starting point for your attorney, not a clearance opinion. Tappmedia NYC is not a law firm.
